(81) River breaks through levy, Zemira repairs and counsels with Bishop Chamberlain about farm and dam
Now, back to his diary where he recorded his daily labors. On November 10, 1878, the river had broken through the levy, shutting off the water from his irrigation section. That was serious, and he worked at that until it was mended. In the middle of December they spent a week and a half picking cotton, all except Christmas day, then by the 28th it was too cold, and the next day it snowed a little, which he said was the first snow of the year. It isn’t usual to have much snow there.
A few days before Christmas Bishop Chamberlain and his counselor Bro. Clarage came from Orderville, and Zemira went with them “viewing farm and dam, and counseling together in regard to our future labors here.” Apparently Bishop Chamberlain realized that Zemira needed help with the farm work, for on January 18, 1879, Zemira wrote: “Viewing farm with Bros. J. Heaton & J. Z. Nielson who have been sent from Orderville to work with me on the farm.”
