(28) Zemira, Ebenezer and Phebe among early group of exiled Saints to reach Council Bluffs
It took five months for the first group to reach the western border of Iowa on June 6, 1846. They could go no further at that time, so they stopped at a place which they called Council Bluffs, accepting the fact that they would have to remain there during the coming winter. (Refer to Map 6)
How many of the Draper group made the trek at this time still remains unknown. Zemira, his mother, and her husband were in the area of Council Bluffs sometime in June, so they would have been among these early groups of exiled Saints as they left Nauvoo, and would have experienced the various typical trials. We know that William Sr. and Lydia, and son Zemira Draper left later.
